Mr. Jhun Yong-Sok, CPA, Elected as the President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA)

Mr. Jhun Yong-Sok, CPA, Vice President of International Affairs at the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA), Elected President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) - Expectations for Korea’s leading role in advancing the accounting profession in the Asia-Pacific region - □ The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (President Choi Woon-Youl) announced on the 9th that KICPA’s Vice President of International Affairs, Mr. Jhun Yong-Sok (photo), was elected President of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) at the CAPA General Meeting held on December 3 in Jakarta, Indonesia. His term is two years. Vice President Jhun was elected CAPA Deputy President in November 2023 and has served in that role for the past two years. □ The Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA) is an international organization established in 1957 to promote the collective advancement of accounting professionals in the Asia-Pacific region. A total of 29 accounting bodies from 21 countries, including Korea, United States, Australia, Japan, China, and India, participate in the organization. □ President Choi Woon-Youl stated, “Following Suh Tae-Sik, Honorary President of Samil PWC in 1989, and Joo In-Ki, former President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), in 2009, I am proud and delighted that once again a Korean has been elected as CAPA President. Coming on the heels of Ms. Shim Jung-Eun’s appointment last month as an IFAC board member, this double blessing signals that Korea will play a central role in the development of the accounting profession in the Asia-Pacific region.” □ Mr. Jhun remarked, “It is an honor and a tremendous responsibility to have a Korean serve as CAPA President again after 16 years. I sincerely thank KICPA for their active support in my election. I will do my utmost to ensure that Korea plays a leading role in advancing the accounting profession in the Asia-Pacific region.” □ Mr. Jhun has nearly 30 years of experience at Deloitte Anjin, working in diverse areas such as audit, management consulting, and Internal Control Over Financial Reporting(ICFR) development. He previously served as an International Affairs Director of KICPA and has been Vice President of International Affairs since this year. 2026 Annual Meeting Between KICPA and JICPA Annual Meeting Between the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants Held- Discussion on AI Response Status in the Accounting Industry of Both Countries -The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA, President Woon-Youl Choi) announced on the 28th that it had jointly held the "28th Annual Meeting" with the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (JICPA, Chairman and President Naruhito Minami) on the 22nd at the Kawana Hotel in Ito, Shizuoka, Japan. The meeting focused on discussing major issues and cooperation measures in the accounting and auditing sectors of both nations. Since 1991, the Annual Meeting has served as a flagship exchange event for the two accounting bodies. By alternating between Korea and Japan each year, the meeting has continuously provided a platform for sharing key institutional and practical issues in accounting and auditing while fostering mutual cooperation. This year’s meeting was attended by 15 representatives, including the leadership from both institutes. Participants engaged in broad discussions regarding joint response strategies for the rapidly evolving accounting and auditing environment. In particular, the Japanese delegation expressed significant interest in Korea’s enactment of the "FRAMEWORK ACT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE CREATION OF A FOUNDATION FOR TRUST" (the "AI Framework Act")―the world’s second such legislation following the EU―and raised in-depth questions about the accounting industry’s proactive response to AI. In his welcoming remarks, President Woon-Youl Choi stated, "It is very meaningful to hold the Korea-Japan Annual Meeting in beautiful Shizuoka, and I am grateful for the warm hospitality. I hope that Korea's current progress in responding to the AI Framework Act and our experience in operating the Auditor Designation System will provide practical benefits to the accounting industries of both countries.“ Chairman and President Naruhito Minami of JICPA responded by saying, "I find it deeply significant that the Korea-Japan Annual Meeting has reached its 28th session. Through this meeting, I look forward to further strengthening the foundation of cooperation between the two institutes.“ KICPA plans to continue enhancing cooperation among accounting professionals in the Asia region by deepening the understanding of each country’s accounting and auditing systems and actively sharing practical experiences through these annual meetings with JICPA. 2026.04.28
2025 Annual Meeting Between KICPA and JICPA "Annual Meeting Between the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants Held"- Discussing Key Issues Including Sustainability Reporting - The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants(KICPA, President Woon-Youl Choi) announced on the 4th that it had jointly held the “27th Annual Meeting” with the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants(JICPA, Chairman and President Tetsuya Mogi) on May 30 at The Westin Josun Seoul, discussing major accounting and auditing issues and current topics between the two countries. The Annual Meeting is a regular exchange event between the accounting professions of the two countries, ongoing since the 1990s. It is held alternately in Korea and Japan every year to share institutional and practical issues in the fields of accounting and auditing and to explore ways for mutual cooperation. This year’s meeting was attended by around 20 participants, including the presidents and other representatives from both countries. They engaged in broad discussions on joint responses and cooperation strategies regarding the evolving accounting and auditing environment. In particular, in-depth discussions were held on shared interests such as sustainability reporting and assurance, as well as accounting, auditing, and tax issues related to virtual assets. The meeting served as a platform to share differences in national systems and to broaden mutual understanding. In his opening remark, President Woon-Youl Choi expressed his appreciation to the JICPA delegation for visiting Korea despite their busy schedules. He remarked, “This meeting will be a meaningful occasion to think of the roles of the accounting profession in light of our social responsibilities and the rapidly changing internal and external environment, and to derive practical avenues for cooperation.” JICPA Chairman and President Tetsuya Mogi stated in his greeting, “It is highly meaningful that the accounting professions of our two countries have continued exchanges based on mutual trust,” and added, “I hope this meeting will further strengthen the foundation of cooperation between our two nations.” Meanwhile, Chairman and President Tetsuya Mogi is scheduled to retire at the JICPA’s general assembly in July this year. His successor, Deputy President Naruhiro Minami, who has been nominated as the next president, also attended the meeting and expressed his commitment to continued communication and cooperation between the two accounting professions. KICPA hosted a training session for members of the MonICPA Korea Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA) hosted a training session for members of the Mongolian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MonICPA)- Introduction to Korea's National and Local Government Accounting and Financial Report Systems The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA), led by Presidnet Choi Woon-Youl, announced on the 24th that they conducted training on national and local government accounting and financial report systems for 32 Mongolian CPAs at the KICPA building on the 22nd and 23rd of October. This program was organized at the request of the Mongolian Institute of CPAs, and participants included CPAs employed in Mongolia's national and local government offices and public institutions. The training introduced Korea's national and local government accounting and financial report systems, along with the latest digital budget and accounting system and ethical standards for CPAs. A KICPA representative noted, "This is the first time we have provided a comprehensive introduction to Korea’s national and local government accounting and financial report systems. The high level of interest shown by Mongolian CPAs highlights the potential benefits for enhancing accounting transparency in Mongolia.“ Since 2005, KICPA has periodically invited Mongolian CPAs to Korea as part of a mutual cooperation initiative with the Mongolian Institute of CPAs, offering training on Korea's accounting and auditing systems. 2024.11.06
KICPA Holds Meeting with Taipei CPA Association The Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA)held a meeting with the Taipei CPA Association.- Introduced accounting and auditing systems and discussed current issues between the two countries - The Korea Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA), led by Woon-Youl Choi, announced that it held a meeting with the Taipei CPA Association of Taiwan on September 5 to discuss the accounting and auditing systems of both countries and current issues. This is the first time a Taiwanese CPA association has made an official visit to the KICPA in the 70 years since its founding. The meeting was organized at the request of the Taiwanese side and was attended by more than 20 representatives from both organizations, including Seo Won-jung, vice president of the KICPA, and Fu Wen-feng, president of the Taipei CPA Association. "We are very pleased to have interacted with Taiwanese accountants for the first time since the establishment of the KICPA. Through this meeting, we have gained a better understanding of the accounting and auditing systems in both countries and will continue to cooperate in the future," said Mr. Seo. "It is very meaningful to visit the KICPA, and I expect that our two associations will play a pivotal role in exchanging expertise and raising the profile of the accounting industry in the Asia-Pacific region," said Mr. Fu Wen-feng.
